Since we finished up our Social Studies curriculum early this year, I've been letting my son pick a topic for us to cover each week. He recently requested Paul Bunyan. Between the book, the cartoon, and the resulting conversations about geography and history, I knew this could easily keep us busy for a week or more!

Here are a couple of the resources we used...

The book...

The cartoon...

You can also find it here or on Netflix...

After reading the book and watching the cartoon (several times by request), we went to the globe to look at all the places Paul traveled to in the book. We then talked about some of the famous landmarks and how they related to the story. Because my son LOVES geography, we spent quite a bit of time learning about the different landmarks and where they're located.

Famous Landmarks included...

The Grand Canyon
The Mississippi River
The Great Lakes
The Bay of Fundy (There's also a Doki episode that talks about this!)
The Black Hills
Niagara Falls
Mt. Hood

The list goes on and on, but those are a few that we covered...

To go along with all of this, I also decided to create a couple worksheets for our study. After all, it's an easy way to add in some language arts to the mix!
